Music Notes:

Music is an important subject in the development of your child's thinking as well as fine tuning their fine motor skills. At Trinity, we believe it is important to offer music classes that will build upon each other as a child progresses from one grade to another.

All-State Requirements are posted below for 2012. If you need copies of the exercises please contact Mr. Cornelius. All-State CD's will also be available after school begins.

Director:  Mr. Larry Cornelius

The Trinity Christian School Band is comprised of three different groups:

Beginner Band

Beginner Band consists of 5th graders who have no prior experience playing a band instrument. Students will find the skills taught in K5 - 4th Grade music classes very helpful in the transition to learning how to play a band instrument. Families are responsible for supplying their own instruments. The school has a few instruments available for rent on a first-come, first-serve basis. Beginner band fees include a $50 Band Book Fee used to purchase music and an additional $15 per month in tuition beginning in June. The beginner band will perform in the school concerts. At the end of their first year in Beginner Band, students will be able to play 5 one octave scales and arpeggios from memory and have success in sight reading simple exercises and songs on their instrument.

Intermediate Band

Intermediate Band is comprised of 6th graders who have had one year of experience playing a band instrument. Band fees include a $50 Band Book Fee used to purchase music and an additional $15 per month in tuition. Intermediate Band students are encouraged to participate in the University of Alabama Honor Band in Birmingham (UAB) in the fall. They are also encouraged to try out for Alabama All-State Middle School Band. Sixth grade Trinity students have been very successful at both of these events. The Intermediate Band performs at the school concerts.

Advanced Band

Advanced Band consists of 7th - 12th grade students. Band fees include a $50 Band Book Fee used to purchase music and an additional $15 per month in tuition. Advanced Band students are encouraged to participate in the University of Alabama Honor Band in Birmingham (UAB) or Troy Honor Band in the fall. They are also encouraged to try out for Alabama All-State Middle School and High School Bands. Many students from Trinity are accepted into the All-State Band and in addition, Trinity always has several students selected for the District VI Honor Bands. The Advanced Band has performed at the High Notes Festival in Atlanta, GA. The Advanced Band performs at the school concerts as well as other events throughout the community.

If you would like this group to perform at a function, please contact director Mr. Larry Cornelius at tcsband@bellsouth.net.

2011 All-State Honor Band

We are pleased to announce eight students selected for the All-State Honor Band for Alabama. This is prestigious honor as students from all over the state audition before judges in eight districts and are chosen based on their musical ability. Two of the eight were selected as first chair of their instrument in District VI. In addition to our eight attending All-State, seven more students were selected for District Honor Band. We are extremely proud of our Trinity band students.
